Skiing

Some 20 odd years ago I developed the wallet emptying habit of going skiing. It is something i really look forward to each year. Over the years I have skied in various resorts in Norway, Germany, Italy, France and Austria. I am a fan of Austria as a destination. It is a costly pursuit, however you can take measures to save a few euro if you are flexible and sensible. Doing a bespoke holiday is often cheaper (although there can be some very good packages) and gives you more scope and freedom often. One of the major costs is equipment/clothing. Travelling from Ireland, transporting Skis, Boots and Helmet is an extra cost, so hiring is what I do. i have borrowed and tend to lend skiclothing to friends who go skiing particularly if they are just trying. One thing I try to do myself is to renew one item of clothing each year, Jacket, Salopettes, Gloves, Goggles, Thermals, merino wool top, ski-socks etc.

Tips. It is a good idea to avoid the crowds, by avoiding the school mid-term breaks so I always check them List of European School Mid-term Holidays
